The wiki is being retired!
Documentation is now handled by the same processes we use for code: Add something to the Documentation/ directory in the coreboot repo, and it will be rendered to https://doc.coreboot.org/. Contributions welcome!
Known Bad Configurations
These configurations should have been mentioned on HCL if they work in some situations.
Manufacturer | Model | Size | Speed | Type | ECC | CPU | Mainboard | Mainboard PCB revision | Firmware | Fails under proprietary BIOS | Known requirements to trigger bug | Failure Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Micron | MT36KSF1G72PZ-1G6M1FF | 8GB | DDR3-1600 | Registered | Yes | Opteron 6262HE | ASUS KGPE-D16 | 1.03G | Internal development version of coreboot | Yes | Two DIMMs on one channel (i.e. a DIMM in at least one black slot) | Severe memory corruption; coreboot goes into a reboot loop and the proprietary BIOS hangs on starting its PXE ROM(s). Leaving all black slots empty restores normal operation. |
Micron / HP | MT36JSF2G72PZ-1G6E1LG (HP: 672612-081) | 16GB | DDR3-1600 | Registered | Yes | Opteron 6276 | ASUS KGPE-D16 | 1.03G | Libreboot 20160907 | No | More than 2 DIMMs per CPU | Cannot boot (works fine with proprietary BIOS). |
Hynix/Hyundai | HMT151R7BFR4C-H9 | 4GB | DDR3-1333 | Registered | Yes | Opteron 6276 | ASUS KGPE-D16 | 1.03G | Libreboot 20160907 | No | Two DIMMs on one channel (i.e. a DIMM in at least one black slot). | Crashes / Reboots (always boots).
On a side note: without proper cooling these gets really warm with Libreboot, unlike proprietary BIOS. However, the heat is not the problem but might be a symptom. (works fine with proprietary BIOS). |
Micron | MT36KSF2G72PZ-1G6E1FE | 16GB | DDR3-1600 | Registered | Yes | Opteron 6308 | ASUS KGPE-D16 | 1.04 | Internal development version of coreboot (2017) | Yes | One DIMMs on one channel (i.e. the DIMM is in the topmost one orange slot, A2) | coreboot cannot send MCT request and goes into a reboot loop; the proprietary BIOS also enters a (quite fast) reboot loop before the VGA port can be initialized. These modules do not work at all with either coreboot or the proprietary BIOS regardless of slot location! |
Both Micron DIMMs tested fails at >64GB with two CPUs, coincident?
